Supporting Yerevan's Women's Support Center

St. John Armenian Church is proud to announce its support the accomplishments of Armenia's Women's Support Center, prompting the Parish Council to contribute $5000 to the organization 2021.

One in four women in Armenia suffer from domestic violence, which is why the Women’s Support Center in Yerevan, www.womensupportcenter.org, provides essential services for the social fabric of Armenian society.  In 2021, WSC celebrated 10 years of helping women and families.  

Primate Presides Over Parishioner Recognitions and New Icon Consecration

St. John Armenian Orthodox Church of San Francisco celebrated the feast of Holy translators on Sunday, October 10, 2021, with the observance of the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Abp Hovnan Derderian, primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church with the assistance of Fr. Mesrop Ash, parish priest, and dedicated altar servers and choir members.

The Winter Shelter Volunteer Program is Back

We truly excited to announce that once again St. John will be organizing a several service dates to support the SF Interfaith Winter Shelter. Since 2016 we've coordinated small groups to make and serve meals for San Francisco's homeless as part of this program, which provides a hot, nutritious dinner, case management, and community services, and a place to sleep during the cold winter months.

We have signed up to cook (at St. John’s) and distribute food during the following dates:

Our Sunday School is overjoyed for the opportunity to launch our 2021/22 program on Sunday, October 3! We have been hard at work to preparing to bring this vital program back to our community, and are excited to share our plans with you.

When does Sunday School begin? The first day of Sunday School is October 3, 2021. Classes are from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Wrapping Up Current Phase of Fruitful Partnership with Armenian Army Chaplains

Since 2014 St. John Armenian Church has worked closely with the Army Chaplaincy mission of the Armenian Church. At the outset of the recent war to defend Artsakh, we ramped up our support for this vital program to help our chaplains serve the soldiers. We are proud to announce that with the support of our community we have raised $40,000 to support the Chaplaincy Program of the Armenian Church. With this milestone we are wrapping up this impactful program, having helped our chaplains serve soldiers from 9 battalions throughout Armenia and Artsakh. 

Church Offices Reopens

We are happy to announce that St. John’s church office is now reopening and will continue to serve the community. In late March, when the shelter-in-place order took effect, as all non-essential workplaces, the office was closed, and the church staff quickly reorganized so that everyone could continue their functions while working remotely. During that time parish staff and volunteers continued to serve the community through outreach efforts. However, with the phased reopening of the county, St.
