While we fasted for Lent, we consumed with our eyes a thought-provoking art exhibit by artists Armine and Suren Vardanyan.  Armine was a graduate of Mer Hooys Orphanage in Yerevan. While there she studied at Terlemezyan Fine Art College, where she met art partner and now husband, Suren.

The Honorable Adrienne Krikorian, founder and President of Mer Hooys, was on hand with a presentation. Mer Hooys continues to achieve its mission of empowering young girls in Armenia ages 8 ½ to 22 from severely disadvantaged backgrounds, by providing them with a safe home, comprehensive educational programs, tutoring, psychological counseling, life skills and job training, and, where possible, family counseling and reunification strategies.

All the artwork was created and donated by Armine and Suren specifically to support the cause. With every donation to Mer Hooys, attendees were able to take home one painting. We applaud Armine and Suren for giving back and thank the members of our community who continue to show their heartfelt support for this important mission.

St. John Armenian Apostolic church and the Western Diocese have supported Mer Hooys since it began in 2012 and will continue to do so. If you are so inclined and wish to support Mer Hooys directly, you may go to their website at www.mer-hooys.org. To learn more.
