Leading up to Easter is a time of lent and this year as in past years the Lenten Prayer Vigil Services (Husgoom) were held on Wednesday evenings. Parishioners are invited to come and pray along with participating in the readings. Afterward, a potluck meal was held for all to enjoy.
Maundy Thursday morning service is the commemoration of the Last Supper. Maundy Thursday evening service was performed with the tradition and humble action of Washing of the Feet by our Der Hayr, Fr. Mesrop Ash. It started with Scripture readings and traditional hymns. The washing of the feet came about when Christ wanted to be an example to his disciples as a mark of humility, in the sense that there is greatness in being humble. So it was this evening in our church with Der Hayr starting with the children and an invitation for anyone else in the congregation to have their feet washed.
The other services held this season was the Betrayal, Burial, Easter Eve and finally Easter morning service followed by the Blessing of the four corners of the Earth.
While we had serious fasting, prayer and scripture readings there was also a traditional morning children’s breakfast with an Easter egg hunt and a visit by the Easter Bunny. This is always a wonderful event enjoyed by many.
