Introducing Our 2014 Parish Council!

During our 2014 Annual Parish Assembly, and with the confirmation of the Primate, His Eminence Abp. Hovnan Derderian, the following Parish Council for 2014 was established. Take a moment to get to know them.

Edward Barber

Edward Barber

My name is Edward Lee Barber, I was born in Seattle Washington, We moved to San Francisco two years later.  58 years ago, this coming August, I was lucky enough to have Arlene Saroyan say yes to my proposal of marriage.  At the time I didn't know what and Armenian was except she was very intelligent, a lovely lady and a great cook  To marry in the Armenian Church you have to be baptized and not knowing at the time if I had been, It turns out I was, I was baptized again in the Armenian Church.  I made my living as a salesman, everything from territory salesman , Branch manager, to Regional Sales manager, and was Vice President of Sales for both the San Francisco and Oakland Chamber of Commerce.  We raised three children and belonged to many organizations. Going all the time,  it was time to settle down so I quite attending other gatherings and concentrated where my many friends were located and that was St. John Church. My closest friend who got me involved in many things was Zaven Jardarian.  I was Charmian of the Mr. & Mrs. club for six or more years, this is my third term on the Parish Council and lastly, Steven Cherezian's grandmother played the organ at our wedding and his grandfather sang Ava Mariea.

Arthur Bedikian

Arthur Bedikian

I, Arthur Bedikian, am a San Francisco native who was raised in the St. John community going back to the 70s. My entire family were active participants in the church with my father being a deacon for close to 40 years. I've been serving on the altar for as long as I can remember. I was ACYO chairman during the early 90s! I currently manage one of the only Armenian owned restaurants in the city, La Mediterranee and I represent St. John's on the Mt. Davidson committee. My wife Roubina and I have a 10 month old son, Arman.

John Boghossian

John Boghossian

Member of parish for 20 years.
3rd term serving on the pc.
Has helped with organizing serval events for the church: picnic, family nights, scholarship committee and where ever and when ever there is a need for extra hands.
Met his wife Paula at St. John church.
Lives and works in San Carlos.
Has two children, Rebecca and Andrew.
Enjoys, working in the garden, watercolor painting, playing tavloo, bike rides and hikes with his family.

 

Cissy Baloian

Cecilia Boloian, Secretary

Cecilia Boloian has been a devoted member of St. John for many years, and is orginally from Fresno, California. She has been a long serving teacher of the Sunday School, and is also a member of the Ladies Society Executive Board. She works as a private tutor, and lives in Half Moon Bay with her husband, Poet James Baloian.

Charles Cherezian

My name is Charles Anthony Cherezian. I was born and raised in Walnut Creek. My parents and grandparents have taught me the importance of being involved within my church and faith. I have been involved at St. John Church ever since I was a youngster. I have participated in Sunday School, ACYO, and as youth director of ACYO. I currently serve as a deacon on the altar and serve as the parish council treasurer. I look forward to many more years at St. John Church.

Steven Cherezian

I am a 32 year old Young Professional.  I currently am a Vice President and Branch Manager for Citibank in Blackhawk.  I have been attending St. John since I was a baby.  My grandparents and parents were very active within the community and the church.  In addition I am also the chairman of the AGBU Young Professionals of Northern California.

John Dahlberg

I am a native San Franciscan and work as an attorney here. 

My Armenian heritage was given to me as a gift to enjoy and honor by my mother Gladys Kiredjian Dahlberg and my Grandparents Ohannes and Seranoush Kiredjian, who were born in Smyrna and Marash. They endured many hardships to be Armenian and to give  their children and grandchildren freedom and safety in this country. 

I was baptized in this Parish only 12 years ago, and am thankful for the gift of being part of His Church.

Michael Kazarian

I was born in San Francisco; my grandparents attended St. John when it was on Elgin Park. I was baptized by Fr. Artoon Sempadian, attended Sunday school and served as an acolyte at our present location. I was privileged to participate in St John's first basketball and soccer teams (we actually won a few championships). I also served as co-chair on our Bingo committee; believe it or not we did hosted bingo every Monday Night. My wife Maral and I were married at St John and our son Antonio was also baptized at St John; he is currently attending his 7th year in Sunday school. I also serve as one of the Board of Directors of the Belmont Chamber of Commerce and am the sole owner of Beau Monde Fine Floors; April 2014 will be my 31st year in business.
I am very proud to be serving my third year on our Parish Council. 

Elaine Kapjian-Pitt

Elaine Kapjian-Pitt

I am a former St. John’s Sunday School student and former member of the ACYO, the daughter of Andy Kapjian and the late Mable Akizian Kapjian, long-time members of St. John's.   After moving from San Francisco to the Santa Clara Valley, my family became members of St. Andrew’s Armenian Apostolic Church.  As an adult, I have been an active member of St. John’s for a number of years now.  I am married to Morley Pitt, am the mother of three college-aged children, Julianna, Alicia and Nathan, and work as an attorney for the State of California.
