This year St. John Armenian Church celebrated its 71st Annual Food Festival on Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20. For the past six months our wonderful hard working ladies prepared numerous traditional foods including Sue Boreg, Kufta, Choreg, Cheese Boreg, Spinach Boreg, Sarma, and many more dishes. Under the leadership of Dn. Charles Cherezian, and the dedicated committee the Food Festival was indeed a great success. One of the main reasons for the success was the devotion and positive spirits of our volunteers.
As usual the boutique had many new items handcrafted from Armenia. The take out booth volunteers were very busy taking orders to go. There were always long lines at the buffet, but no one complained, because they were visiting with friends and family while waiting. Pre-Sale was a great success; large orders were placed and picked up on Friday.
Because of the young and energetic Sunday School Students and youth, we raised funds selling Armenian Coffee. They not only helped selling coffee, but also helped welcome guests and even cleanup.
The raffle was another success, there were wonderful prizes, and customers were standing in line to purchase the ticket hoping that they will be the winners.
This year we had a Food Festival Wish List and we offer our sincere gratitude to the 55 angels that generously donated towards the items that were on the list.
The men, who in a spirit of brotherhood of St. John worked hard all week preparing and marinated the kebab and cooked during the festival.
We would like to thank Dn. Charles Cherezian, vice-chair Ed Barber, the entire committee, our nearly 170 volunteers, the advertisers for the booklet, who made the 71st Food Festival possible. Our special thanks to KQED, and Rachel Myrrow, whose report on Armenian cuisine and culture that informed the Bay Area about our fun Food Festival.
