The St. John Sunday School spent the damp but sunny morning of last Sunday not in the classroom as they usually would, but in a new setting: St. John’s newly established parish garden. Instead of their usual curriculum, they learned about how and why seeds grow in to plants that bare vegetables and fruits. Most importantly, they learned that God gave them, and all humanity, the responsibility to be good stewards of His creation. Each child was given their own plot in the garden, so that they can learn that it takes time, attention, and love to be a good steward.
We are happy to announce that the 2013/2014 Sunday School year begins September 8 with the first Family Day of the school year, and Fr. Mesrop will offer a special sermon on the occasion. The following Sunday, September 15, will be the first day of Sunday School classes.
Sunday, June 16, 2013 was the last day of the St. John Sunday School 2012-2013 Academic year. Over 25 students attended the church service and sang hymns of the Divine Liturgy with the choir and congregation. Fr. Mesrop Ash welcomed all the students, praised them for attending Sunday School, and gave a special sermon. Following the sermon Mrs. Paula Boghossian along with Fr. Mesrop gave special gifts to the students as a token of appreciation.
St. John Armenian church is happy to release the Unified Camp Scholarship Application for 2013. It is a source of great spiritual joy for our community that many of our young people have applied and been accepted to participate in the Armenian Church Summer Camp of the Western Diocese. Through the generosity of various funds established with the purpose of sending young Armenians to Hye Camp, St. John is offering several scholarships to children and youth who have been active in the life of the parish.
On Friday night, April 12th, the families of St. John Sunday School once again gathered together for an evening of fun and fellowship. Under the guidance of Sunday School superintendent Paula Boghossian, the families each brought a food item for a potluck dinner. The main purpose for the evening's gathering was to give our young ones an opportunity to practice for their musical performance at our annual banquet.
On Sunday, December 16, 2013 at 10:25, the beautiful bells of St. John Armenian Church were ringing inviting Bay Area parishioners to participate in the Episcopal Divine Liturgy. His Eminence Archbishop Aris Shirvanian, Locum Tenens of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, along with the St. John altar servers and deacons were getting ready for the processional, while the choir members were vocalizing.
