Saturday, February 28, 2015, Rev. Fr. Datev Harutyunian, Fr. Hovel Ohanian and Fr. Mesrop Ash along with Clergy from several Eastern Christian denominations, collectively referred to as the Eastern Churches of the Bay Area (ECoBA), participated in a demonstration outside the San Francisco Federal Building, to raise awareness regarding violence against Christians in Middle East. Several young men paid homage to the 21 Coptic Martyrs by wearing orange overalls who were brutally murdered by ISIS.

On Tuesday, February 17,  Rev. Fr. Datev Harutyunian, Northern Region Vicar,  Rev. Fr. Hovel Ohanyan, and Rev. Fr. Mesrop Ash participated in Divine Liturgy and requiem prayers conducted by Fr. Bishoy William at the Archangel Michael and St. Mercurius Coptic Church in Redwood City. They were joined by several other clergy of Eastern Christian Churches from the Bay Area.

On January 27, Fr. Hovel Ohanyan, Parish Priest of St. Vartan Oakland, and Fr. Mesrop Ash, Parish Priest of St. John San Francisco, enjoyed a spiritually uplifting meeting with His Eminence Bishop Marc Andrus, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of California.

Sunday, January 11, 2015 was a family day at St. John Church, it means the congregation participates in singing along with the choir, and Sunday School children some serve on the altar and some sing with the choir. Following the solemn Divine Liturgy, Fr. Mesrop Ash explained why the Armenian Church performs the Blessing of the Water, which is a symbolic commemoration of the Baptism of Christ. It is customary to have a Godfather during the Water Blessing service, however, this year because Hovnan Surpazan declared the year 2015 the “Year of the Youth”, Fr.

On Wednesday, April 23, 2014 Fr. Mesrop was with students and faculty from KZV Armenian school at the Mt. Davidson Cross, where they had a cultural program to pay their respects to the Genocide Martyrs by placing flower.

WALK FOR REMEMBRANCE

Thursday, April 17 at 8:30-9:00pm and on Saturday, April 19 at 3:30-4:00pm a half-hour program will be aired on Food and Spirituality on KQED in the Bay Area. 

The World Day of Prayer is an international ecumenical Christian laywomen’s initiative. It is run under the motto “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action,” and is celebrated annually in over 170 countries on the first Friday in March. The movement aims to bring together women of various races, cultures and traditions in a yearly common Day of Prayer, as well as in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year.

On Thursday, February 28, his Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian visited the community of St. John Armenian Church of San Francisco.
