On Wednesday morning, Bay Area Armenians were pleasantly surprised to hear a fun and thoughtful story about our community, our annual Food Festival, our culture and faith aired on KQED. The story, by Rachael Myrow, was made possible by the facilitation of Food Festival committee member Elise Kazanjian and with the support of Mrs. Amelia Surabian. St. John parish thanks all involved in bringing this story about.

Sunday, September 8, 2013 following the Divine Liturgy, the Honorable Judge Adrienne Krikorian, Esq., and the first female Chairperson of the Diocesan Council of Western Diocese, gave a presentation about House of Hope / Mer Hooys.

We are happy to announce that the 2013/2014 Sunday School year begins September 8 with the first Family Day of the school year, and Fr. Mesrop will offer a special sermon on the occasion. The following Sunday, September 15, will be the first day of Sunday School classes.

It was mid-April, when Mr. James Kachian, one of our parishioners, called St. John Church office to inform us that his brother Christopher, guitarist, and Thomas Schönberg, cellist, will be in San Francisco and would like to perform at the Armenian church. With the blessing of our Parish Priest Fr. Mesrop Ash, the concert was scheduled immediately.

In the Armenian Church, the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ is celebrated 98 days following Easter.  The Feast also is known by the common name of “Vartavar”. Sunday,  July 7, was a joyous day for St. John Family. Divine Liturgy was celebrated by guest celebrant and homilist Archpriest Fr. Sarkis Petoyan, and the over 100 strong congregation sang the sacrad hymns along with the choir. Following the spiritual message, the clergy and altar servers participated in a procession (tapor) around the church sprinkling water on the congregation.

St. John parish hereby releases the updated schedule for Food Festival preperation. Everyone who is willing to be a part of our cooking crew is welcome to join in on the following dates.
