The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is the most important of the four feasts of the Holy Cross. It is observed on Sunday closest to September 14. This year Armenian churches all around the world celebrated, The Exaltation of the cross on Sunday, September 13.
In conjunction with the celebration of the Feast of the Holy Cross, St. John Church has adopted a wonderful tradition, by inviting Sunday School returning and new students for registration and letting them participate in the joyous occasion. This year more than 30 students attended the opening day of Sunday School, with even more student registered. Following registration the students attended church to take communion and to listen to the special sermon offered by Fr. Mesrop, about the cross and Christian identity.
The Antasdan Service (Blessing of the Field) took place at the church courtyard, during which the processional cross was adorn with basil (a symbol of royalty) and the four corners of the church were blessed as a sign of the sanctification of the world.
