On Saturday, September 6, the parish of St. John Armenian Church held its second St. John Cares* event—a community pop-up BBQ appropriately named “Grillin’ for Charity.” Organized by Parish Council members Dan Riley and Greg Cherezian, along with the ACYO under the leadership of Dn. Charles Cherezian, the courtyard of the church was transformed into a vibrant space of fellowship, service, and generosity.

The delicious BBQ was lovingly prepared and marinated by a dedicated group of volunteers, while the ACYO members baked fresh Armenian gata and cheese boreg, adding a traditional touch to the menu. The neighborhood around St. John quickly filled with the inviting aroma of the grill, drawing in both parishioners and community members. Bright balloons and welcoming signs decorated the courtyard, creating a festive and inviting atmosphere.

The event ran from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., serving dozens of happy guests throughout the day. Most importantly, all proceeds from the BBQ will be donated to the San Francisco Homeless Children’s Network, supporting vulnerable children and families in need and the Armenian Church Youth Organization.

This second event of St. John Cares was not only a joyful gathering but also a meaningful act of charity, reflecting the parish’s mission to extend Christ’s love beyond its church walls. The success of the BBQ was made possible by the hard work, generosity, and teamwork of countless volunteers.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who planned, cooked, served, decorated, and supported this effort. The event truly embodied the spirit of giving and community—proving once again that when hearts come together in service, great things happen.
